THE DESCRIPTION OF BIU

History of Biu

The history of Biu Local Government dates back to the pre-colonial era when it was founded by a group of settlers who migrated from different parts of what is now known as Adamawa State. The founding of Biu was a result of the consolidation of several smaller towns and villages in the area. Biu grew in importance and became a hub of trade for the region, facilitating commerce between the Hausa, Fulani, and Kanuri ethnic groups in the area. This led to the establishment of a vibrant market, which contributed greatly to the economic development of the town. During the colonial era, Biu was incorporated into the Northern Region of Nigeria, and its administration was placed under the control of the British colonial authorities. After independence, Biu became part of the then Borno State, and in 1996, it was carved out as a local government area.
