THE DESCRIPTION OF UKWANI  

History of Ukwani 

Ukwani Local Government Area is located in Delta State, Nigeria. It was created on the 27th of August 1991, during the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida, as part of the government's efforts to decentralize power and bring governance closer to the people. The local government was carved out of the former Ndokwa Local Government Area and is situated in the northern part of the state.

The area is home to several ethnic groups, including the Ukwuani, Ika, and Isoko. The Ukwuani people are the predominant ethnic group in the area, and their language is the most widely spoken.

The Ukwani people have a rich cultural heritage, with several festivals and ceremonies celebrated throughout the year. These include the New Yam Festival, which marks the beginning of the harvest season and is celebrated in August, and the Igbodo-Ozalla Festival, which is celebrated annually in December and is a time for the people to come together and celebrate their culture.

Geography of Ukwani 

Ukwani Local Government Area is located in the northern part of Delta State, Nigeria. It is bordered by Aniocha North Local Government Area to the south, Ndokwa East Local Government Area to the east, and Isoko North Local Government Area to the west. The local government is situated on the eastern bank of the River Niger and covers an area of approximately 583 square kilometers.

Ukwani Local Government has a diverse landscape, with the area comprising of lowland and upland areas. The lowland areas are located in the southern part of the local government, while the upland areas are located in the northern part of the local government. The local government is also characterized by several hills and valleys.

Economy of Ukwani 

Ukwani Local Government is primarily an agricultural area, with farming being the major economic activity. The area has fertile land and water resources, which are utilized for crop cultivation. The major crops grown in the area include yam, cassava, maize, plantain, and vegetables. Agriculture is the main source of income for the majority of the population, and it contributes significantly to the local economy.
