History of Oshimili 

Oshimili is a Local Government Area in Delta State, Nigeria. It was created in 1991 from the former Oshimili/Aniocha Local Government Area.

Historically, the area has been inhabited by several ethnic groups, including the Ibo, Anioma, and Ika peoples. In the pre-colonial era, the area was part of the Benin Empire, and later the Kingdom of Onitsha. The area became part of the Southern Nigeria Protectorate in the late 19th century, following the British colonization of Nigeria.

In the 20th century, the area became an important center for commerce and trade, particularly in the city of Asaba, which is the capital of Delta State. The Asaba-Ughelli Road, which runs through the area, was a major trading route, connecting the interior regions of Nigeria with the coast.

Geography of Oshimili 

Oshimili Local Government Area is located in Delta State, Nigeria. It is situated in the central part of the state and is bordered by Aniocha North Local Government Area to the north, Aniocha South Local Government Area to the east, Ika South Local Government Area to the south, and Ndokwa East Local Government Area to the west.

The area has a total land area of approximately 244 square kilometers and is predominantly low-lying, with a few hills and plateaus in the north and east. The Niger River flows through the western part of the area, forming the boundary with Ndokwa East Local Government Area.

Economy of Oshimili 

The economy of Oshimili Local Government Area is largely driven by agriculture, commerce, and trade. The fertile soil supports the cultivation of a wide variety of crops, including cassava, yam, maize, rice, and vegetables. Smallholder farmers produce crops for local consumption and for sale in nearby markets. Fishing is also an important economic activity, particularly along the banks of the Niger River.
