THE  DESCRIPTION OF ETHIOPE

History of Ethiope West 

Ethiope West Local Government Area is one of the twenty-five local government areas in Delta State, Nigeria. It was created on August 27, 1991, during the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.

Prior to its creation, Ethiope West was part of the old Ethiope Local Government Area. The local government area is situated in the southwestern part of Delta State and shares borders with Warri South, Ughelli North, Okpe, and Ethiope East local government areas.

The headquarters of Ethiope West Local Government Area is located in the town of Oghara, which is also the largest town in the area. The local government area is home to several other towns and communities, including Mosogar, Jesse, Ovade-Oghara, Ophorigbala, Eku, Abraka, and others.

Geography of Ethiope West 

Ethiope West Local Government Area is located in the southwestern part of Delta State, Nigeria. The local government area covers a total land area of approximately 416 square kilometers and is bordered by Warri South, Ughelli North, Okpe, and Ethiope East local government areas.

Ethiope West has a tropical climate, with an average annual temperature of about 28°C. The area experiences two distinct seasons: a rainy season, which runs from April to October, and a dry season, which runs from November to March.

The local government area is home to several rivers and water bodies, including the River Ethiope, which is the largest river in Delta State. 

Economy of Ethiope West 

The economy of Ethiope West Local Government Area is largely driven by agriculture, commerce, and oil and gas exploration.

Agriculture is a major economic activity in Ethiope West, with crops such as cassava, yam, maize, rice, and vegetables being cultivated in large quantities. The area is also known for its palm oil and rubber production, which are major cash crops. Fishing is another important economic activity, with the River Ethiope and other water bodies providing a source of fish for local consumption and export.

The commercial sector is also thriving in Ethiope West, with several markets and trading centers spread across the local government area. The largest of these markets is the Oghara market, which attracts traders and buyers from other parts of Delta State and neighboring states.
