Dunukofia is a local government area that is situated in Anambra State, the South-East of Nigeria. The population of the local government is predominantly agrarian. The population density in the area is among the highest in all of Nigeria. The LGA has general hospitals at Ukpo and Ifitedunu. Also there are a dozen high schools both for boys and girls in the area.
The headquarters of the local government are domiciled in the Town of Ukpo and it is made up of some towns and villages which include Ukwulu, Ifitedunu, Umudioka, Nawgu, Ukpo, and Umunnachi. Dunukofia local government is bordered by the Oyi, Awka North, Idemili North, and Njikoka local government areas. The population of Dunukofia local government is more compared to some other local government with the vast majority of the area’s habitants being members of the Igbo ethnic group. Christianity and traditional religion are broadly practiced in the Dunukofia local government while the Igbo and English languages are generally spoken in the area. A number of significant festivals such as the Mkpukpa festival in Umudioka are celebrated in Dunukofia while they also hold the Miss Dunukofia beauty pageant annually.
