History of Michika

Michika (Mwe-cika) is a Local Government Area that is situated in Adamawa State, Nigeria. Michika is the administrative headquarters of the local government. The local government is located in the Northern region of Adamawa State and it is located directly across the border from the famous tourist site of December Rhumsiki and Mcedigyi in Cameroon. Mwe-cika (Michika) is known as the fourth largest town in Adamawa State. The Kamwe language is widely spoken in Michika local government while the religion of Christianity is broadly practiced in the area. Popular traditional festivals in Michika local government include the Wasinats and Yawale festivals while the notable landmarks in the local government include the Michika College of Health and Technology and the Government Secondary School Michika. Towns and villages that makeup Michika local government include Garta, Mutse, Dilichime, Bokka, Likune, Bazza, Zah, and Futu.

Geography of Michika

The principal ethnic group and language in the local government of Michika is the Kamwe people and they speak the language called Kamwe. Michika’s local government was created in the year 1976.  The local government of Michika is located and bordered on the east by the Republic of Cameroon. On its northern border, there is the Madagali local government, while it shares a border also to the west with the Askira/Uba local government of Borno State. To the south, it is still bordered by the Mubi North and Hong local government areas. The average humidity level in the local government of Michika is calculated at 40 percent while the total precipitation in the area is caalculated at 1300

Economy of Michika

Michika local government area is a cosmopolitan area and hosts several banks, hotels, restaurants and government institutions. The local government also is a rich area in agriculture and is known for the cultivation of a number of crops. Trade also flourishes well in the local government with the area hosting several markets that has made platforms for the exchange of a variety of goods and services. Other important economic activities that the Michika people engage include animal rearing, leather works and wood carving.
