Description of Umuahia South
Umuahia South local government area is situated in the Abia state of Nigeria. The headquarters of the local government is in the town of Apumiri Ubakala and the local government area shares borders with the Umuahia North, Ikwuano, and the Isiala Ngwa local government. The towns and villages that makeup Umuahia South LGA include Amankwo, Omaegwu, Ezeleke, Amakama, Ekenobizi, Ngodo, Ahiaukwu, Nsirimo, and Ubakala. The Igbo language is spoken commonly in the LGA while the Christianity religion is widely practiced in the area. Festivals celebrated in the Umuahia South local government include the New Yam and the Ekpe masquerade festivals.

History of Umuahia South
Umuahia south local government area was created in August 1991. Umuahia was established by the British colonial administration of Nigeria, these happened in the early 20th century. Umuahia was declared the 2nd (and soon it became the longest serving) capital, of the short-lived nation of the Biafra Republic, on 28 September 1967 after the first capital was installed, Enugu was captured by the Nigerian troops. On April 22, 1969, Umuahia was occupied and nearly overtaken by Nigerian troops but they were instead forced to retreat, due to a very stiff offensive by Biafran Maj. E.A. Eutuk. After the Umuahia's capture on the 24 December 1969, the last Biafran capital before its dissolution became the land of Owerri.
