Bauchi City Description

Bauchi City is the capital of Bauchi State, located in northern Nigeria. It is situated on the northern edge of the Jos Plateau and has a population of approximately 500,000 people.

Bauchi LGA (Local Government Area) is one of the 20 LGAs in Bauchi State, Nigeria. It is located in the central part of the state and covers an area of approximately 3,687 square kilometers. Bauchi LGA has a population of over 330,000 people, according to the 2006 national census.

The headquarters of Bauchi LGA is located in the city of Bauchi, which is the capital of the state. The LGA is made up of several towns and villages, including Tudun Salmanu, Kofar Fada, and Gwallaga.

History of Bauchi State

Bauchi state celebrate Eid al-Fitr at the end of the Ramadan, traditionally known as Hawan Sallah or Hawan daushe (meaning Sallah riding) with horsemen adorned in traditional (mostly Hausa warriors) regalia, Bauchi 2011. The city in Bauchi state was supervised by Yaqub ibn Dadi, the only non-Fulani flag-bearer of the Sokoto Empire. The name was founded from a hunter called Baushe, who advised Yaqub to build his city west of the Warinje mountain.

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was layed down in the city of Bauchi state, while the Yankari National Park is 110 km from the state capital. The city is centred on the Port Harcourt – Maiduguri railway line. The Bauchi State Library Board was authorized in 1976. Bauchi  state was attacked by Boko Haram in 2006 following the arrest of some of its members resulted in over 50 people killed and over 100 arrested. After the 2014 Chibok kidnapping, over 200 students were transferred to the Federal Government Girls College, Bauchi. The greater number of persons were from Federal Government Girls’ College, Potiskum, Yobe State.

Transport in Bauchi

Bauchi was initially served by a narrow gauge 762 mm (2 ft 6 in) light railway, but this was later change to the normal gauge of 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in).During August 2014, Bauchi was served by Bauchi Airport, located in-town. Scheduled airline service was then transferred to the newly constructed Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, 23 kilometres (14 mi) north of Bauchi, near the village of Durum.

Bauchi Light Railway

The Bauchi Light Railway was a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge railway built in 1914 to carry tin from Jos in Nigeria to the main line 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm) railway at Zaria.The railway are available in sections 1912-1914, Jos-Bukuru (16 km or 9.9 mi) was widened to 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm) narrow gauge in 1927, while the remainder closed 30 Sep 1957. The track, locomotives and rolling stock from the Wushishi Tramway were used to build and operate the line. Zaria is located to the north of Jos and the light railway was later rebuilt with a shorter connection to the main 3 ft 6 in (1,067 mm) gauge railway to the south. It also connected Bukuru. The line was 184 km (114 mi) /long. Bauchi State consists of 55 Tribal Groups . Bauchi state is an important stat for collecting and shipping centre on the railway from Maiduguri to Kafanchan and is also a major road hub in the state. 

Bauchi Geographical Description

Bauchi State is located in the northeastern part of Nigeria. It was created in 1976 when the former North-Eastern State was divided into three separate states. The state capital is Bauchi, and other major cities in the state include Azare, Jama'are, Misau, and Ningi.

Bauchi State covers an area of approximately 49,119 square kilometers. The state shares borders with six other states in Nigeria, including Jigawa to the northwest, Kano to the north, Kaduna to the west, Plateau to the southwest, Taraba to the southeast, and Gombe to the east.

The landscape of Bauchi State is diverse, with a mix of highlands, plateaus, and plains. The state is home to the Jos Plateau, which rises to an elevation of over 1,200 meters above sea level. The Yankari Game Reserve, one of the largest wildlife parks in Nigeria, is also located in Bauchi State. The park features a wide range of wildlife, including elephants, lions, baboons, and hyenas.
