History of Guzamala
Guzamala Local Government is located in Borno State, Nigeria. It was created in 1996 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha as one of the local government areas in the state.
The area was named after the Guzamala River which flows through the region. The people of Guzamala are mostly Kanuri, a tribe predominant in Borno State. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people in the area, and the region is known for its production of sorghum, millet, and other crops.
Geography of Guzamala
Guzamala Local Government is located in the northeastern part of Nigeria, in Borno State. It covers an area of approximately 2,938 square kilometers and is bordered by Mobbar Local Government to the north, Nganzai Local Government to the east, Magumeri Local Government to the south, and Abadam Local Government to the west.
The area is generally flat, with an average elevation of about 250 meters above sea level. The region is part of the Chad Basin and is characterized by seasonal water bodies, such as the Yobe River and the Guzamala River, which provide water for irrigation and support the growth of crops.
The climate of Guzamala is semi-arid, with a dry season that lasts from November to March and a wet season from April to October. Average temperatures range from about 28°C to 34°C during the dry season and 20°C to 30°C during the wet season.
Economy of Guzamala
Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy in Guzamala Local Government, and the area is known for the production of crops such as sorghum, millet, maize, cowpea, and groundnuts. Farmers in the area cultivate both rain-fed and irrigated crops, with irrigation schemes such as the Guzamala Irrigation Project playing a significant role in the production of crops.
