History of Monguno
Monguno Local Government Area (LGA) is located in Borno State, in the northeastern part of Nigeria. The history of Monguno LGA is closely tied to the history of the Kanuri people who are the dominant ethnic group in the area.
The Kanuri people have a long and rich history, with the Kanem-Borno Empire, which was one of the largest and longest-lasting empires in African history, originating from the region. The empire existed from the 9th century to the 19th century and had its capital in the present-day city of Kanem in Chad.
During the colonial era, the area that is now Monguno LGA was part of the Northern Nigeria Protectorate, which was administered by the British. After Nigeria gained independence in 1960, the region became part of the newly created Borno State, with Monguno initially being part of the larger old Borno division before becoming a separate Local Government Area.
Geography of Monguno
