History of Kwaya Kusar
Kwaya Kusar is a town and Local Government Area in Borno State, located in northeastern Nigeria. The town has a rich history dating back several centuries.
According to oral tradition, Kwaya Kusar was founded in the 16th century by a group of hunters who were looking for a place to settle. The hunters discovered the area and decided to establish a village, which they called Kwaya Kusar, meaning "the village of the Kusar people." The Kusar people were one of the ethnic groups that inhabited the area at the time.
In the 19th century, Kwaya Kusar became an important center for the trans-Saharan trade, with merchants coming from North Africa to trade in goods such as textiles, salt, and slaves. The town was also an important center for Islamic scholarship, with many Islamic scholars and students coming to the town to study at the various Islamic schools that were established there.
Geography of Kwaya Kusar
Kwaya Kusar is a town and Local Government Area (LGA) located in the southern part of Borno State, Nigeria. It is situated in the Guinea Savannah region of Nigeria and is located at latitude 10.6576°N and longitude 12.7222°E. Kwaya Kusar shares borders with other LGAs in Borno State, including Askira/Uba to the north, Hawul to the east, Gwoza to the south, and Biu to the west.
The town has a population of over 100,000 people and is predominantly inhabited by the Margi people, who are known for their farming and fishing activities. The area is characterized by undulating terrain with rocky outcrops, and the vegetation is mostly savannah woodland with patches of tropical forest.
The Kwaya Kusar LGA has an area of 2,130 square kilometers and is divided into several districts, including Kwaya Kusar, Bara, Fatawe, Ngilzarmai, Guduf, and Marama.
