History of Damboa

Damboa Local Government is a local government area in Borno State, located in the northeastern region of Nigeria. The headquarters of Damboa Local Government is in the town of Damboa.

The local government area has an area of approximately 3,730 square kilometers and a population of over 234,000 people according to the 2006 census. The majority of the people in Damboa Local Government are Kanuri and Fulani ethnic groups, and Islam is the predominant religion.

Damboa Local Government was created in 1976 as part of the local government reforms carried out by the military administration of General Murtala Mohammed.

Prior to its creation, Damboa was a small town in the Mandara Mountains of northeastern Nigeria, inhabited mainly by the Kanuri people. The town was known for its agricultural production, particularly of crops such as yams, sorghum, and millet. It was also a center for traditional craft production, including weaving, pottery, and leatherwork.

Geography of Damboa
