History of Jere
Jere Local Government Area is a local government area in Borno State, Nigeria. It was created in 1976 during the military administration of General Murtala Mohammed. The local government area is named after Jere, a town in Borno State.
Before the creation of the Jere Local Government Area, the area was part of the Maiduguri Local Government Area. With the creation of Jere Local Government Area, the Maiduguri Local Government Area was split into two, with Jere as one of the new local government areas.
Over the years, Jere Local Government Area has been affected by the Boko Haram insurgency that has plagued the northeastern region of Nigeria. The insurgents have carried out several attacks in the area, causing displacement of residents and destruction of property.
Geography of Jere
Jere Local Government Area is located in the northeastern part of Nigeria, specifically in Borno State. It covers an area of approximately 1,184 square kilometers and shares borders with other local government areas in Borno State, including Maiduguri, Konduga, and Mafa.
The terrain of Jere Local Government Area is mainly flat, with an average elevation of about 300 meters above sea level.
