History of Gboko

Gboko local government area is situated in Benue state, the north-central of Nigeria, and has its headquarters settled in the town of Gboko. The local government shares boundaries with Buruku, Tarka, Gwer, Ushongo, and Konshisha LGAs. Several towns and villages that makeup Gboko local government include Mbadim, Mbatan, Mbaaverakaa, Mbakpegh, Ukpekpe, Mbaanku, and Igyorov. The Tor Tiv is the traditional administrator of the local government area. The estimated population of the Gboko local government area is more compared to other small LGAs with the majority of the area’s dwellers being members of the Tiv ethnic group. The languages that is widely spoken in Gboko local government are Tiv and Hausa while Christianity and Islam are the commonly practiced religions in the LGA.
