THE DESCRIPTION OF IKA SOUTH

History Ika South 

Ika South Local Government Area is one of the twenty-five local government areas in Delta State, Nigeria. It was created on August 27, 1991, during the administration of General Ibrahim Babangida.

Prior to its creation, Ika South was part of the old Agbor Division of Bendel State. The local government area is situated in the central part of Delta State and shares borders with Ika North-East, Ndokwa East, and Aniocha North local government areas.

The headquarters of Ika South Local Government Area is located in the town of Agbor, which is also the largest town in the area. The local government area is home to several other towns and communities, including Owa-Alero, Owa-Oyibu, Abavo, and others.

Geography of Ika South 

Ika South Local Government Area is located in the central part of Delta State, Nigeria. The local government area covers a total land area of approximately 315 square kilometers and is bordered by Ika North-East, Ndokwa East, and Aniocha North local government areas.

Ika South has a tropical climate, with an average annual temperature of about 27°C. The area experiences two distinct seasons: a rainy season, which runs from April to October, and a dry season, which runs from November to March.

The local government area is largely hilly and undulating, with the exception of some flat areas along the River Niger, which forms the northern boundary of the area. The area is covered by dense vegetation, including tropical rainforest and savannah, and is home to several wildlife species, including antelopes, monkeys, and birds.

Economy of Ika South 

The economy of Ika South Local Government Area is largely driven by agriculture, commerce, and small-scale industries.

Agriculture is a major economic activity in Ika South, with crops such as cassava, yam, maize, rice, and vegetables being cultivated in large quantities. The area is also known for its palm oil and rubber production, which are major cash crops. Fishing is another important economic activity, with the River Niger and other water bodies providing a source of fish for local consumption and export.
