THE DESCRIPTION OF IKA NORTH

History of Ika North 

Ika North Local Government Area is one of the twenty-five local government areas in Delta State, Nigeria. It was created in 1991 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. The local government area is located in the central part of Delta State and has its headquarters in the town of Boji-Boji, also known as Boji-Boji Owa.

Before the creation of the Ika North Local Government Area, the area was part of the former Bendel State, which was later split into Edo and Delta states in 1991. The people of the area are predominantly of the Ika ethnic group, with the major languages spoken being Ika and English.

Since its creation, Ika North Local Government Area has undergone several transformations in terms of its leadership and development. The local government area has had several chairmen and administrators, who have worked to improve the socioeconomic conditions of the people.

Geography of Ika North 

Ika North Local Government Area is located in the central part of Delta State, Nigeria. It is bordered to the north by Aniocha North Local Government Area, to the east by Aniocha South Local Government Area, to the west by Oshimili North Local Government Area, and to the south by Ndokwa East Local Government Area.

The local government area has a land area of approximately 113.5 square kilometers, and its terrain is mostly flat, with some gently rolling hills. The area is drained by several rivers, including the Orogodo River, the Ekwuoma River, and the Idumuesah River. 

Economy of Ika North 

The economy of Ika North Local Government Area is primarily driven by agriculture, commerce, and small-scale industries. The fertile land in the area supports the cultivation of crops such as yam, cassava, rice, maize, and vegetables. There is also a significant amount of fishing in the rivers and streams that flow through the area.

In addition to agriculture, commerce is a major economic activity in Ika North Local Government Area.
