The landscape is primarily covered by dense tropical rainforest vegetation, which provides habitat for a diverse range of plant and animal species. The Cross River National Park, which is home to many endangered species, including gorillas, chimpanzees, and forest elephants, is located partly in Boki Local Government Area. The area is also traversed by several rivers, including the Cross River, which is the major river in the region. The local government area is bounded by Obanliku Local Government Area to the north, Ikom and Etung Local Government Areas to the east, Akamkpa and Biase Local Government Areas to the west, and Ogoja Local Government Area to the north-east.
History
Boki Local Government Area (LGA) is located in Cross River State, Nigeria and was created on August 28, 1991, when Akamkpa LGA was carved out of the former Ogoja LGA. The headquarters of Boki LGA is located in Boje town. The LGA is made up of several communities and has a diverse population that includes the Ejagham, Bette, and Yala ethnic groups among others.
Economy
Boki region's economy is largely driven by agriculture, and the government has made efforts to promote and support the growth of the sector. One of the ways the government has supported the agricultural sector is through the establishment of the Cross River State Agricultural Development Project (CRS-ADP) which provides technical and financial assistance to farmers in the region. The government has also initiated programs to encourage the processing and value addition of agricultural products in the region, as well as the development of agro-based industries to create more job opportunities and increase revenue generation.
