THE DESCRIPTION OF MARTE

History of Marte

Marte is a local government area situated in Borno State, Nigeria. The local government area is rich in history that dates back to pre-colonial times. Before the arrival of European colonizers, the area was inhabited by the Kanuri people who were known for their skilled horsemanship and military prowess.

In 1902, the British established a military post in the area, which eventually led to the incorporation of Marte into the British colony of Nigeria. During the colonial era, Marte was part of the larger Borno Province and was governed by British-appointed officials.

After Nigeria gained independence in 1960, Marte became part of the newly created Borno State. The area has since been governed by elected officials through a local government system.
