THE DESCRIPTION OF MM
History of MMC (Maiduguri Metropolitan Council)
The history of local government in Borno State, Nigeria, dates back to the colonial period when the British established a system of indirect rule in the region. In 1946, the British Colonial Administration created the Maiduguri Native Authority, which served as the first form of local government in the region.
Following Nigeria's independence in 1960, the federal government adopted a policy of creating more local governments to bring government closer to the people. In 1976, the Military Government of General Olusegun Obasanjo created the Local Government Reform Decree, which led to the creation of the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) in Borno State.
The Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) was established as a local government area with its headquarters in Maiduguri, the state capital. The MMC was created as a result of the merger of several smaller local government areas in the region, including the Maiduguri Native Authority, the Gamboru Ngala Local Authority, and the Biu Local Authority.
