THE DESCRIPTION OF BAMA

History of Bama

Bama Local Government Area was created in 1976 during the military administration of General Murtala Ramat Mohammed. It was carved out of the former Borno State, which was later split into three states: Borno, Yobe, and Jigawa.

The local government area is named after the town of Bama, which is the headquarters of the area. Bama is a historic town that has been inhabited for centuries. The town was a major center of trade and commerce in the region, serving as a hub for goods and services between the Sahara and the Lake Chad basin.

Geography of Bama

Bama Local Government Area is located in the northeastern region of Nigeria, in the state of Borno. It is situated between latitudes 11° 20′ 0″ N to 12° 30′ 0″ N and longitudes 13° 50′ 0″ E to 14° 55′ 0″ E.

Bama LGA shares boundaries with neighboring local governments such as Konduga to the northwest, Gwoza to the south and Ngala to the east. It also shares a border with Cameroon to the east.

The terrain of Bama LGA is predominantly savannah grassland with sparse vegetation covering the landscape. The area is characterized by a dry climate, with two distinct seasons: the rainy season which runs from May to September, and the dry season which lasts from October to April.

The major rivers and water bodies in Bama LGA are the Ngadda and Yedzeram Rivers. The Ngadda River is a major tributary of the Komadugu Yobe River which runs through Borno and Yobe states.

Economy of Bama

Bama Local Government is a local government area in Borno State, Nigeria. As of my knowledge cutoff date of September 2021, the economy of Bama Local Government was largely based on agriculture, with farming as the main economic activity. The local government is known for its fertile land, which supports the cultivation of crops such as maize, millet, sorghum, and vegetables.
