Ibesikpo Asutan is a city in Akwa Ibom State. Located in the southeastern Delta region of Nigeria, in Akwa Ibom state.  Ibesikpo-Asutan is one of the thirty-one Local Government Areas in the State.  Ibesikpo-Asutan is made up of two clans namely Ibesikpo and Asutan Clan.  It is bounded in the North by Uruan Local Government Area, in the South by Etinan, South East by Nsit Ibom, in the North East by Nsit Atai and in the West by Uyo Local Government Area. The people are generally homogenous and speak the Ibibio language.

History of Ibesikpo Asutan

Ibesikpo-Asutan is a Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. It is inhabited by the Ibesikpo and Asutan clans. The Local Government Headquarters is Nung Udoe. It is the home of former Akwa Ibom State governor architect Obong Victor Attah. It is also home to the Time Chief of Air Staff, the Late Air Marshall Nsikak Eduok. Ibesikpo- Asutan is made up of 43 villages. The Lutheran Church National Headquarters, Seminary, and Lutheran High school are located in the Local Government, at Obot Idim.

Ibesikpo Asutan Economy

Fishing is an important economic activity in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA with the area’s rivers being rich in seafood. Farming is also a key feature of the economy of the area with crops such as cassava, yam, plantain, banana, oil palm, and cocoyam grown in the area. A study was carried out to examine returns to cassava processing in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. The specific objectives are to identify the various products from cassava in the study area; estimate costs and returns to cassava processing, and identify constraints to cassava processing and marketing.
