Geography of Numan

Numan local government area is the site of the confluence of the two rivers ‘Benue and Gongola’ and has an average temperature of about 34 degrees centigrade. The local government area witnesses two major seasons, the dry and the rainy seasons having an average humidity level of about 18 percent. Numan local government area is located about 30 miles (50 km) from Yola, and it is opposite the mouth of the Gongola River, which also is the main tributary of the River Benue.

History of Numan

Numan is also called Nomweh (meaning 'hilltop'), it is a town and a Local Government Area that is situated in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The predominant ethnic group is the  Bwatiye (Bachama) people who have a well-known reputation for being undisputed warriors in all of their histories. The Bwatiye people are led by a First Class King known as the Hama Bachama, who is the high ruler of the Bachama Kingdom, whose Voti (known as a palace) is in Numan the administrative seat of the throne meanwhile Lamurde has another palace that belongs to the King as this is the ancestral or spiritual home of the Bwatiye people. The name Queen in the Bachama kingdom is called Mbamto (Queen) and she is Mbamto.  Numan local government is the location of Adamawa State Polytechnic

Economy of Numan

Farming is a paramount economic activity in Numan local government with crops such as cowpea, sorghum, groundnut, and millet grown in the area. A number of animals such as donkeys, cows, and goats are reared and sold in the local government area. Trade flourishes well also in Numan local government with the area hosting several markets which provide them the opportunity for the exchange of variety commodities. Other economic activities that are also important in Numan local government include hunting and leather works.
