Data from the analysis of the Girei local government area showed that the majority of ethnic groups in and across most Wards were the Hausa, Bwatiye, Fulani, Mbula, and other minority tribes in the area such as the yungur, Marghi, and Higgi who were there for farming.

History of Girei

Girei local government area is situated in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The local government lies on the River Benue. Information gathered showed that the main base of the economy for Girei local government area is mainly agriculture, then others are fishing and rearing of animal. Most of Girei local government wards within the LG headquarters were made up of civil servants and business men and women, while the wards in that are in the outskirts were basically fishermen, herders / Women and agrarian communities.

The common crops that are grown in the local government include Maize and Guinea Corn, Cassava, Rice, Beans, groundnuts, vegetables. The common animals reared are sheep and poultry, cattle, goats.
