The local government area of Umuahia north was established shortly after independence formally in the year 1961-1964, the local government was under a district council that was spearheaded by District Officer (DO). Umuahia North generally was under the Bende district until on the 7th of August 1976 when the local government system came into establishment in Nigeria. Umuahia North local government area was created in August 1991.
The Igbo language is the common language spoken in the LGA while the religion of Christianity is vastly practiced in the area. Some notable landmarks in Umuahia North local government include the popular Timber Shed and the De Mecks Supermarket.
