THE DESCRIPION OF ISHIELU
History of Ishielu
Ishielu Local Government Area is a local government in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. It was created on August 27, 1991, when Ebonyi State was carved out of the old Enugu State.
Before the creation of Ebonyi State, Ishielu Local Government Area was part of the old Abakaliki Local Government Area. The area was later split into Ishielu and Onicha Local Government Areas.
The headquarters of Ishielu Local Government Area is located in the town of Ishielu. The local government area covers an area of about 385 square kilometers and has a population of over 200,000 people.
Ishielu Local Government Area is home to several communities, including the Agba, Ezzagu, Ezzama, Ekka, Akaeze, Nkalaha, Nkalagu, Ndufu-Achara, and others.
Geography of Ishielu
Ishielu Local Government Area is located in the southeastern part of Nigeria, specifically in the southern part of Ebonyi State. It lies within the tropical rainforest belt of Nigeria, with a tropical climate characterized by high rainfall and temperatures that rarely drop below 20°C.
The local government area covers an area of about 385 square kilometers and has a population of over 200,000 people. It shares boundaries with Ohaukwu Local Government Area to the north, Ebonyi Local Government Area to the east, Ivo Local Government Area to the south, and Onicha Local Government Area to the west.
Economy of Ishielu
The economy of Ishielu Local Government Area is predominantly based on agriculture. The area has a rich soil that is suitable for farming, and as a result, farming is the primary occupation of the people. Crops like yam, cassava, rice, and maize are cultivated in large quantities by the locals, while cash crops like oil palm, cocoa, and rubber are also grown.
Apart from agriculture, there are other economic activities in Ishielu Local Government Area. The area is rich in mineral resources, including limestone, lead, and zinc, which are mined by small-scale miners. The extraction and processing of these minerals provide employment opportunities for the people.
