History of Isuikwuato

The name Isu-Ikwu-Ato is interpreted in Igbo as 'three Isu families or lineage' and these refer to the three lineages descended from the people of Isu, in what is now known as a local government area. The three brothers are Imenyi who is the eldest, his younger brother from the same mother Oguduasaa, and Isuamawo who is the second oldest and first from the second wife. These three major clans which also harbor various other communities in each of them make up the present-day Isuikwuato.

Economy of Isuikwuato

Isuikwuato local government area has natural resources such as iron ore and kaolin. They have an oil line that flows through Isuikwuato and there have been notable cases of burst pipe which have had severe effects on the local economy and environment. The major cash crops they have are palm oil and cassava. The soil at Isuikwuato is loose and it suffers from Erosion, this left some dangerous erosion sites in the area. The local government lack the needed government backing to build drainages around the area to help guide the flow of water without further damaging the already crying soil. Isuikwuato is blessed with hills and highlands, the town will appreciate water infrastructures because water is very important but it is a hard resource to get in Isuikwuato. Isuikwuato is also home to the Abia State University Uturu.

The people of Isuikwuato are predominantly Christians. We have the Anglicans, Catholic, Methodists, and Presbyterians dominate other denominations, but denominations such as the Assemblies of God have increased in number.
